Spirit in Stone is a series of projects delivered by Inspired North East between 2013 and 2018.
The first stage engaged volunteers and visitors directly in the rich heritage of historic places of worship in the North East. Forty-eight churches were involved in creative workshops for church volunteers, producing resources for use by organisers of schools visits, a Church Explorer Guide for children, and six new local area heritage trails. The project, completed at the end of 2015, was made possible by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The second stage was the production of a multimedia learning resource for schools - more details about this are provided in the Spirit in Stone Digital Resource for Schools information page.

Inspired North East is working with local congregations to help achieve a sustainable future for church buildings as living places of worship, used and enjoyed by local communities, welcoming to visitors, and unique heritage assets. It is an initiative of the Church of England Diocese of Newcastle.
